Privacy Policy
The ContextBlur extension does not collect, transmit, or share page content. The public website uses aggregate, cookie-free analytics.
Data Collection
ContextBlur is designed with privacy as the core principle. The extension does not collect any personal information, browsing history, or user behavior data.
Website Analytics
The public website at contextblur.app uses Plausible Analytics to count aggregate page views and conversion events such as clicks to an official browser store. Plausible does not use cookies or persistent identifiers, and ContextBlur does not send page content, form values, or blurred data to analytics.
Website analytics are separate from the extension. Installing and using the extension does not add analytics to the pages you visit. See Plausible's data policy for details about its aggregate measurement model.
Local Storage
The extension stores CSS selectors of elements you choose to blur in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local), keyed by page URL. This data:
- Never leaves your browser
- Is not transmitted to any server
- Can be cleared at any time using the "Clear All" button
- Contains only CSS selectors, not personal content
Auto-blur Feature
When you click “Run auto-blur now”, the extension scans visible text on the current page to detect patterns matching emails, phone numbers, SSNs, and credit cards. This processing:
- Happens entirely in your browser
- Only runs when you explicitly click the button
- Requires acceptance of a disclosure on first use
- Does not store or transmit any detected content
Third Parties
The extension does not share page data with third parties and has no analytics, advertising, or tracking dependencies. All extension code is bundled locally. The website analytics described above do not run inside the extension.
Network Requests
ContextBlur makes zero network requests. The extension operates entirely offline and does not communicate with any external servers.
Your Rights
You can clear all stored blur data at any time by clicking “Clear All” in the side panel, or by removing the extension from Chrome.
